The Technique Competition is a great learning experience for all
students! It promotes a healthy competitive spirit, self-confidence, and
courage!! There will be two events which
students will be working on with different instructors; form (best technique of
blocks, kicks, & punches) and light contact sparring for pre-yellow
through orange belts. **Purple belts and higher will have harder contact.
Students will be assigned to ring depending on age and belt color. The
first hour will be devoted to forms training. The students will learn how to
create their own form and how to use it to practice all the skills they have
learned in class. The next hour will be spent on sparring training. Students will spar against other Champion
Youth students of the same age group and belt color*(Some purple belts and
higher may be moved up into new rings if there are only one or two students
practicing in their ring.) Instructors will help teach younger students the
basics of sparring while the older students will work on refining their more
advanced sparring techniques. After sparring, all the students will then be
lined up for the competition by rank. (Yellow Belts vs. Yellow Belts etc.) Students will compete for Best Punch, Best
Kick, and Best Block etc. All students will receive a neck medallion, and a
chance to win a Karate Trophy!!
Champion Youth Instructors will be conducting self-defense
demonstrations and board/brick breaking; always a crowd favorite! Additional information regarding the
Technique Competition will be distributed at class in the next few weeks. Mark your calendar for Saturday April 25th! It's an event you will not want to miss!
Admission for
Yellow & Orange Belts: $25 for participants ($30 at
the door.), $2 for spectators and guests. Children 4 and under are free.
Admission for Purple Belts
& Higher: $30
for participants ($35 at the door) Purple belts and higher will be competing
in Sparring AND Best technique competitions. Purple Belts and higher must have
head gear and chest gear for sparring!
At class, your Sensei will have
the registration form and liability release on one sheet. To register, simply fill this out and turn in
your fee: $25 for pre-yellow, yellow and orange belts or $30 for purple and higher.
The day of the competition,
simply tell us your name when you go to buy your spectator tickets. You will be
on the Competitor List. We have found this pre-registration procedure reduces
the amount of time spent standing in line and delaying the start time the day
of the competition. We will be checking competitors in at 8:00. It is $5 more
to pay at the door ($25/$35).
Competitor’s fees are non-refundable for absentees.
You need to sign up (and pay
the competitor’s fee) for the tournament with your Sensei no later than April
22nd. If we do not have a minimum number
of students, we will be forced to cancel the competition and will return your
fees.
IMPORTANT THINGS TO REMEMBER…
1) All students need their own uniform,
cup, mouthpiece, and hand and footpads in order to attend!
2) Purple belts and higher need to have
their chest gear and headgear for the sparring training.
