SESSION SUMMARY & HIGHLIGHTS

(Sessions can be from 7-15 weeks long)

WEEKS 1-3

New student registration: We accept new students up to the second or third week of class.  Bring a friend to enroll in class and receive a free headband.  It's always more fun to have a partner to practice with!

 Children's Equipment Donation:

The Equipment Donation enables students to earn their training equipment!  Though we offer a low cost program, it can be discouraging for parents to discover the additional costs of uniforms and training equipment.  This is how the Donation works.  Champion Youth will give away door prizes at our next Karate Tournament.  Students offer door prize tickets to anyone who wishes to make a donation to help the student purchase their training equipment.  100% of all donations will be used to pay for equipment!  By earning their equipment, students get an added sense of responsibility and parents are relieved of additional expenses.

WEEKS 3-5

Cups & Mouthpieces are mandatory:  In the next weeks, we will be starting light contact sparring.  All students will be required to have a groin cup & mouthpiece as protective equipment.  They will be available at class for $11.00/set for boys and $15.00/set for girls.

WEEK 5

Light contact sparring starts:  For the next few weeks students will be working with partners learning self-defense and sparring to utilize techniques learned in the first few weeks of class.

WEEKS 6-10

A typical class includes the following:  Basic techniques are reviewed.  New techniques are learned.  Self-Defense and sparring drills are practiced and if time allows, we play Karate games!  NOTE:  This is the best time to take make-up lessons!

Earnings from the Equipment Donation are to be turned in to your instructor.  You do not need to wait until you sell all of your tickets; you can receive equipment as soon as you want!  The sooner the students have their training & protective equipment, the faster they will progress!

WEEK 11

Testing:  Advancement in rank is based on participation, attendance, positive attitude and Karate skills!  There is a $10.00 testing fee.

Champion Youth Karate Tournaments & Seminars,   All students are invited to compete against other Champion Youth students of the same age and ability in the Karate Tournament held once per year.  There will be many different events to compete in with over 150 trophies to be awarded!
Champion Youth Seminars are held many times throughout the year. They are 3-4 hours long and held on the weekends. These seminars are optional but are invaluable for your childs training. These seminars give the students more one on one time with instructors to help improve their self-defense skills.

WEEK 12

Awards Ceremonies:  Certificates, belts, stripes, patches & perfect attendance awards will be presented to all students!  Remember to bring your tournament medallions and trophies!

Weekly sign-in procedures:

Every student is required to sign-in at the registration table each week.  Make checks payable to "Champion Youth" and include a driver’s license and phone number.  There is a $25.00 fee for returned checks and your checks will no longer be honored.  It is very important to sign-in every week so that accurate records can be kept for perfect attendance awards!!  Please be on time; late students interrupt the class and miss important information and instruction.  All students must be picked up promptly after class and parents must accompany students to and from classroom!

Advancement in rank, make-up lessons & perfect attendance:

Students may be tested at the end of each session for advancement in rank!  You must attend a minimum of eight classes before you are eligible for testing.  Missed lessons can be made up by attending two classes back-to-back in the same evening.  All make-up lessons must be paid for.  Perfect attendance is awarded to any student that has attended or made up all classes.

Parent Helper's Club:

We rely on parental involvement to keep the costs of our programs low.  Please volunteer to help the instructor if you are going to be at class each week.  We will need parents to help with weekly sign-in, and to assist with training equipment during class.  All registration parent helpers will receive a discount on class fees.

Parents please practice with your children:

We recommend that students practice 15 minutes a day.  Please encourage them and act as their partner whenever possible.  If you need help, see your instructor for training tips.  Remember that class time should be used to learn new techniques, only practice can make them perfect!

Equipment orders:

All training and protective equipment used in class is available for purchase.  If you desire, you may earn any item in the Children's Equipment Donation.  Equipment should be available at class the following week after ordering.  Please place orders as soon as possible.

This class is designed for self-defense purposes only!  Respect for the instructor and fellow students is expected at all times.  Any student creating problems in class will not be allowed to continue the program.

A Note to all Parents:

Please realize that this program has been carefully planned and structured so that every class will be a new learning experience for your child to build upon.  The benefits are to be realized after a full session has been completed and the student’s presence at each class is crucial for the development of these skills.  Until they have adequate experience, it is quite common for children (especially the younger group) to initially have difficulties in learning the techniques.  Furthermore, children might not be used to the training process of self-defense because of its repetition and reliance on a strong structure of discipline.  These are all important elements of learning self-defense and the value of persistence.  If your child wants to quit after a few weeks have been invested, we believe it is important to encourage them to stay with the program for at least one full session.  This will give both you and your child the opportunity to experience the full range of benefits obtainable through our program. If at any time you have comments or suggestions about our programs or instructors, please feel free to write or call us.  We appreciate your support and value your input.  Have a great class!
