CHAMPION YOUTH KARATE TOURNAMENT

RULES & REGULATIONS
These rules have been updated, please read carefully! Ask your sensei if you have questions!

PARENTS: PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN UNDERSTAND THESE RULES & REGULATIONS.

FORMS COMPETITION

Each competitor will have 15** seconds to demonstrate the techniques they have learned in class.**PURPLE BELTS AND HIGHER WILL DEMONSTRATE THEIR FORM FOR 30 SECONDS! The judges will be looking for your best blocks, kicks, punches, and combinations. They will be listening for loud "KIAI". Remember, use only the techniques you have learned in class!

SPARRING COMPETITION

Each competitor must have a uniform, hand & foot pads and a cup & mouthpiece. They are available at the equipment table. Purple belts and higher must have a sparring vest for the competition.

Sparring will last for two minutes, the judge will stop the match to call points, however, TIME WILL CONTINUE TO RUN. The competitor with the most points after two minutes wins the match. In case of a tie, there will be a tiebreaker, with the competitor who scores the first point winning. Purple belts and higher will compete for a non-stop 2 minute round at the end of which the competitor with the most points will continue to the next round. A point is scored when a competitor gets a kick or punch into the midsection of his opponent.** Please see below.

THIS IS A LIGHT CONTACT EVENT ONLY!! CONTROL YOUR KICKS & PUNCHES!! (**Purple belts and higher must use harder contact to the mid section only. Points will not be awarded for simply making contact with the sparring vest. Judges will look and listen for harder contact. You must still control your kicks and punches!) There will be no contact allowed above the shoulders, or below the waist. ABSOLUTELY NO CONTACT TO THE HEAD IS ALLOWED! A competitor will get a warning for breaking these rules. The competitor will get a point taken away for a second offense. Any intentional breaking of these rules will result in a disqualification.

COLORED BELT COMPETITORS: There is no practice round. Colored belts who lose the first round will be eliminated.

Every competitor receives a participation medal and a special tournament star!

Trophies will be awarded for 1st through 3rd for the forms division and 1st through 4th places for the sparring division. Good Luck!
